Heart Health & Massage: How Regular Sessions Support Your Cardiovascular System

At Bright Mountain Bodywork in Lancaster County, we view massage therapy as more than a luxury. When practiced regularly, massage can play a meaningful role in supporting cardiovascular health, stress regulation, and long-term well-being.

While massage is not a replacement for medical care, research increasingly shows that it can positively influence several factors related to heart health, including blood pressure, heart rate, and nervous system balance.

Lowering Blood Pressure and Heart Rate

One of the most well-documented cardiovascular effects of massage therapy is its ability to lower blood pressure and heart rate.

A clinical study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that participants receiving deep tissue massage experienced significant reductions in systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as heart rate, following treatment.

Another study examining myofascial trigger point massage showed similar outcomes, including decreased blood pressure and increased parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) nervous system activity.

These changes are important because elevated blood pressure and heart rate place additional strain on the cardiovascular system over time.

Supporting the Nervous System and Heart Regulation

The cardiovascular system is closely linked to the autonomic nervous system. Chronic stress can keep the body locked in a sympathetic “fight-or-flight” state, which increases heart rate, blood pressure, and inflammation.

Massage therapy has been shown to shift the nervous system toward parasympathetic dominance, promoting relaxation and recovery. Improved heart rate variability, a marker of cardiovascular resilience, has been observed following therapeutic massage sessions.

This nervous system shift helps reduce cardiovascular load and supports overall heart function.

Benefits of Regular, Ongoing Massage

Consistency matters. Research suggests that the cardiovascular benefits of massage are more pronounced when sessions are received regularly.

A randomized controlled trial involving women with hypertension found that weekly Swedish massage sessions over four weeks resulted in sustained reductions in blood pressure.

This supports what we see clinically: massage works best as part of an ongoing wellness routine rather than a one-time intervention.

Stress Reduction as Preventative Care

Chronic stress is a major contributor to cardiovascular disease. Massage therapy helps lower stress hormones and promote relaxation, indirectly supporting heart health by calming the systems that regulate blood pressure and circulation.

Organizations such as the Massage Therapy Foundation have highlighted massage’s role in supporting cardiovascular wellness through stress reduction and autonomic regulation.

Is ANF Therapy Right for You?

What is ANF Therapy?

Amino Neurofrequency therapy is a frequency therapy. These frequencies are specifically working with the nervous system. The frequency is delivered through a small wearable, medical device.

The ins and outs of ANF therapy. Described by Christine

How is ANF therapy delivered?

Essentially ANF is delivered through a round circular sticker. It LOOKS simple. But the technology is far from simple. The material is made of a carbonized metal that has the ability to embed and hold a frequency. Amino Neurofrequency (ANF) disc adheres to the body with 3M antibacterial skin-friendly adhesive. The exact same adhesive as a band-aide.

The device is activated by your infrared heat, in other words, your body heat. This then delivers a frequency that the nervous system can detect.

How long do you wear them?

The discs hold and deliver the frequency for 72 hours. You can wear the discs while you can sleep, you can shower with them, and go about your normal life. The great thing about this therapy is you can receive the treatment the whole time you’re wearing the discs. It's not dependent on you being in an office to get treatment.

You can go through your day and continue your treatment. This is important because it allows the body to replicate these frequencies. These frequencies are already present in the body. This is how the body communicates with the brain to create biochemical fusions.

Why do your neurological frequencies diminish?

Physical, mental, or emotional stress, environmental factors, or injury create free radicals in our bodies. Too many free radicals cause inflammation and diminish the natural communication back and forth from the brain to the body. This means slower healing, and increased inflammation which can create other problems.

Often I use this with people who are struggling with pain. I've worked on all sorts of pain. Normal aches and pains, to nerve pain, to chronic pain to pain. ANF reduces inflammation and increases antioxidant production which means faster healing.

ANF is not limited to pain. There's no limit to the applications of this therapy. ANF is getting the body to work optimally. I have worked with people with digestive disorders, autoimmune issues, fibromyalgia, and those seeking more wellness.

Any condition or disease driven by acute or chronic inflammation can be helped with ANF. Harvard Medical Publishing stated that both observational studies and laboratory research indicate that inflammation can be a positive factor in many diseases:

  • Coronary artery disease

  • Diabetes

  • Cancer

  • Alzheimer's disease

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Allergies and asthma

  • Skin conditions

  • Arthritis

These are just many reasons why reducing inflammation in the body has to be important as we age.
